Manage-media:Uploading media
From Site Foundry
Uploading media?
To provide media content for your site, the Site Foundry application provides you a device to upload content that can then be used throughout the site in a variety of forms. You can currently upload the following file types:
- JPEG [image/jpeg & image/pjpeg]
- Flash (SWF) [application/x-shockwave-flash]
- GIF [image/gif]
- PNG [image/png & image/x-png]
- Quicktime (MOV) [video/quicktime]
- WMV [video/x-ms-wmv]
- PDF [application/pdf]
- Word (DOC) [application/msword]
- FLV [video/x-flv]
- Excel (XLS)[application/msexcel]
- Powerpoint (PPT) [application/mspowerpoint]
- MP3 audio [audio/mp3]
These files are uploaded in the raw form (no processing is carried out), they are placed in a publically accessible location to save server load and provide the best download speed for users. Once the item has been uploaded, then it is possible to link it to as many items of content within the application as required - or resize it for a specific leaving the original for other uses.
There's very little else to it - upload a file, then link it to where it is required, being it in a module, or a page. The only stipulation is that there is that there is an extension on the file (as in the list above).
Uploading media items
- To upload media items, click on the manage media menu item on the top of the page.
- Select the folder that you would like to upload the file to.
- Scroll down to the Upload media section.
- Click browse, to select the item saved on your file system.
- Enter a description for the file. This will be the name of the file saved on the server.
- Click upload, and file will be uploaded to the server.
The media item is now uploaded.
If you have trouble uploading media, you can turn off the advanced upload feature by clicking on switch to basic mode. This will then replace the flash upload app with a standard HTML form. We recommend that you use this if you having problems uploading a particular file.
